History

          Novodzhambul phosphorus plant (NDFZ) Zhambyl affiliate of Kazphosphate LLC is a chemical plant where yellow phosphorus and phosphorus containing products such as thermal orthophosphoric acid, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate, ferrophosphorus and granulated slug are produced. Plant is located 15 km north-west from the border of Taraz city, along the northern slopes of Ulken-Burul mountain of Malyi Karatau ridge.

Total area of the plant is 644,75 ha. Industrial processes of the plant are on non-stop regime..

Construction of Novodzhambul Phosphorus Plant was planned in 1971-1975. Decision on construction of the site has been done in August-September, 1970.

The project was developed by the Leningrad scientific research and project institute of the basic chemical industry (LENNIIGIPROCHEM).

Some other project organizations were taking a part on the plant’s engineering as well, they are: “Proektstalkontruciya”, “Lenstroipromproekt”, “Giprogazoochistka”, “VNIIgazdobicha”, “VNIIETO”, “PromtransNIIproekt” (Kazakhstan), “Vodokanalproekt” etc.

First industrial construction drafts and automobile road approach drafts were received in 1971. In early 1972, the cleanup activities in the industrial site were started. Industrial construction of the plant’s facilities started in 1973.

The process was headed by M.M.Sherstyukov team. “Kazpromtechmontazh”.

On December 27, 1978 members of the State Commission have signed an act about operation admission for the first launching complex.

First launched complex has included:

- sinter production from phosphate fines (1st sintering machines) with production capacity 1000 th. tons/year;

- yellow phosphorus production (1-2 furnaces) with production capacity 55 th. tons/year;

- granulated slag production with production capacity 550 th. tons/year;

- phosphoric acid production from phosphorus containing slurry with production capacity 16 th. tons/year

For the first time in the world a the technology of yellow phosphorus production from agglomerated phosphorite fines by ore-thermal furnaces was introduced at NDFZ. Using of fine-grade phosphate rock (previously kept at dump pit) connected with the development of effective technology of agglomeration the phosphorite fines on machines of AKM-312M type with sintering area 312 m².

In the following years, from 1979 to 1986 there was put into operation the rest of production:

29.12.79 – sinter production from phosphorite fines (2nd sinter-machine) with production capacity 1000 th. tons/year;

29.12.79 – yellow phosphorus production (3-4 furnaces) with production capacity 55 th. tons/year;

29.12.79 – granulated slag production with production capacity 550 th. tons/year;

31.03.82 – phosphoric acid production from slurry with production capacity 28 th. tons/year;

30.04.82 – agglomerate production from phosphorite fines (3rd sintering machine) with production capacity 1000 th. tons/year;

30.11.82 – yellow phosphorus production (5-6 furnaces) with production capacity 60 th. tons/year;

30.11.82 – granulated slag production with production capacity 600 th. tons/year;

30.11.82 – nitrogen production with production capacity 30 th. m³/hour;

30.12.82 – thermal phosphoric acid production with production capacity 60 th. tons/year;

30.12.83 – yellow phosphorus production (7-8 furnaces) with production capacity 60 th. tons/year;

30.12.83 – granulated slag production with production capacity 550 th. tons/year;

29.03.84 – sodium tripolyphosphate production (1st launching complex) with production capacity 60 th. tons/year;

31.10.84 - thermal phosphoric acid production with production capacity 60 th. tons/year;

05.01.85 - sodium tripolyphosphate production (2nd launching complex) with production capacity 60 th. tons/year;

25.02.86 – potassium tripolyphosphate production with production capacity 3,5 th. tons/year;

25.02.86 – potassium- sodium tripolyphosphate production with production capacity 2,1 th. tons/year.

In recent years, the plant put into operation a new production:

15.03.2011 – purified phosphoric acid production with production capacity 50 th. tones/year;

01.10.2011 – granulated sodium tripolyphosphate production with production capacity 20 th. tones/year;

01.06.2012 – sodium hexametaphosphate production with production capacity 5 th. tones/year;

Major environmental facilities were put into operation at the plant:

01.08.2010 – furnace gas utilization system, furnace #5;

13.04.2012 – furnace gas utilization system, furnace #6;

01.10.2012 – smoke fumes cleaning system after FS furnaces in bag filters.

Sludge collectors are cleaned with the processing and recycling of phosphorus contained sludget. Currently, one sludge collector of the four is clean, another two sludge collectors are under the processing.

There is an installation work of furnace gas recycling systems (#7, 8 furnaces).

Installing of bag filter for the clearing of smoke fumes after drying drum is anticipated.

In 1991 Novodzhambul phosphorus plant (NDFZ) was renamed as NODFOS PC.

August 5, 1992, NODFOS PC according to Zhambyl Committee of State Property Management was converted to NODFOS JSC - open joint stock company.

In accordance with resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No.725 of June 10, 1996 “On Urgent Measures on bringing Zhambyl region phosphoric subindustry out of crisis”, NODFOS JSC enterprise of phosphoric subindustry was transferred to the external management of IBE TRADE CORP company.

In accordance with the decision of general meetings of stakeholders of Nodfos, Superphosphate Plant, Karatau, Promtrans, Phosphor joint stock companies, in order to create conditions to bring out all enterprises of phosphorus industry of Republic of Kazakhstan from the production and financial crisis, by the Resolution of the Department of State Property Management and Asset Management of the Ministry of Finance of Republic of Kazakhstan No.297 of September 23, 1997, there was formed Kazfosfor joint stock company.

Based on the decision of the Board of Kazfosfor JSC (Minutes No.2 of 01/10/97), Tarazfosfor affiliate was established on September 29, 1997 in accordance with the Civil Codex of Republic of Kazakhstan.

NDFZ production cooperative (report of shareholders meeting of NDFZ PC No.1 of August 3, 1998) was formed on the basis of KAZFOSFOR OJSC – TARAZFOSFOR on August 3, 1998.

On October 21, 1999 Kazphosphate Limited Liability Company was created in fulfillment of Government Resolution No.1580 "On some measures of support of phosphate industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan". Novodzhambul Phosphorus Plant Production Cooperative was acquired at auction as a property complex by Kazphosphate LLC on October 21, 1999.
